Last night’s debate on tax policy studies and Medicare vouchers left no time for discussions about many of the important civil rights and civil liberties issues being discussed in this election.
In fact, it left us wanting. Here are some of the important topics we wish last night’s debate would have covered:
Reproductive freedom and access to contraception.
Voter suppression efforts in the states.
Immigration reform and the future of DREAMmers.
Marriage for same-sex couples.
Transparency in government.
Maybe some of these issues would have come up had the commission selected a veteran moderator. Oh wait.
Let’s hope next week’s vice presidential debate is different.
