Horses and Bayonets and Drones! Oh My!

Last night’s foreign policy debate touched on everything from the threat of China to domestic education policy. It was all over the map.

The favorite phrase buzzing the Internet today comes from president Obama’s zinger in response to Governor Romney’s assertion that we have fewer naval ships than in 1916.

The president said, “You mentioned the Navy, for example, and that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. Well, Governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets, because the nature of our military's changed.”

It is no surprise to anyone, not even Romney, that we have a lot more military technology than we did in 1916 – but that isn’t what concerns us.

This issue is the president’s silence on the use of illegal drones. It’s an important civil liberties issue because the President has unchecked power to kill individuals on a self-approved list.

Even more frightening, both Romney and Obama agree on this unconstitutional program.
