ICYMI: Civil Liberties on The Daily Show

ICYMI: President Obama was on the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and (drum roll please) he talked about civil liberties issues!  He said, “There are some things that we haven't gotten done. I still want to close Guantanamo. We haven’t been able to get that through Congress,” and that what “we have got to do is put a legal architecture in place and we need congressional help do that.”

Obama went on to say, “Sometimes you have to make tough calls but you can do so in a way that's consistent with international and American law.”

We can keep our communities safe without violating the Constitution and our civil rights and liberties.

Stewart then asked about Obama’s continuation of “Bush-era warrantless wiretapping laws and those types of things.”  Obama replied, “Well, the truth is we actually have modified them and built a legal structure and safeguards that are in place that weren't there before on a whole range of issues. Now, they're not real sexy issues...”

Constitutional issues surrounding our civil rights and liberties aren’t sexy? We didn’t get the memo.
