When it comes to reproductive freedom - the outcome of the November 6 elections won’t only affect women in the U.S., it will affect women around the globe. We’re talking about the “Global Gag Rule,” a federal policy that that cuts off crucial federal funding for family planning services overseas.
Two days after taking office, President Obama rescinded the policy, also known as the “
Mexico City policy.” Governor Romney, however, has vowed to
reinstate it on his first day in office, if elected.
The Global Gag Rule not only harms women’s reproductive health and freedom – it undercuts free speech and democratic participation for organizations that want to use their own funds to advocate for better reproductive health care.
